Early Life The son of a clergyman, Coleridge was a precocious, dreamy child. Samuel Taylor Coleridge, (born Octo , Ottery St. Mary, Devonshire, England—died J , Highgate, near London), English lyrical poet, critic, and Lyrical Ballads, written with William Wordsworth, heralded the English Romantic movement, and his Biographia Literaria () is the most significant work of general literary criticism produced in .
